Went to the midnight show at the Mann Westlake with [livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6 and [livejournal.com profile] amy_leone. We all loved it. Spoiled as I was, I just sat gaping and grinning for two and a half hours. As [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria said, So much to love!

No, it's not perfect. Few movies are. But it's non-stop, and amazing in so many ways, not least of which are the magnificent climactic scenes.

*adores*

Must see it again, ASAP.

Wow.

Just...Wow.

Thank you for posting something I can actually read (can't go till Sunday and prefer to stay only partially spoiled). Your reaction makes me very happy.

I may post spoilery stuff, but it would always be under a cut. I myself am glad I was spoiled -- I'm just that way, like reading the ends of books, etc., really increases my enjoyment of movies. What I don't like is reading others' opinions of the different characterisations and plot elements, which may differ from my own perceptions considerably (and did in this case, on a number of points). But that's all part of being spoiled, I guess, as one is not spoiled in a vacuum, but by real people writing with real delight, astonishment, dismay or outrage.

I have a really really hard time with people who pass judgement on a movie without seeing it first, something which has been going on for months in regard to this movie. But even reading spoilery posts about it all day yesterday I thought, no I'll wait and see, and sure enough my impressions of crucial scenes differed from those, sometimes to a huge degree.

I am still hearing the music in my head. I think I need the soundtrack. Today.

Or maybe I'll just go see it again. ;)

How 'bout both?

Hmmm... soundtrack (just watch out for that remix track!). *plots course home via BestBuy*

Yay! I've actually pretty much managed to avoid spoilers, so I'm hoping to be enthralled. Thanks for this!

As I was just telling [livejournal.com profile] hendercats, I liked knowing some of what was going on, and fortunately was able to avoid being much influenced by opinion, because my opionions of various scenes differed, very considerably in some cases. It's a popcorn muncher, a fast 2.5 hours. Still saying it: Wow!!

I hope this question is vague enough to allow a non-spoilerish answer - but is there any hope at all a die-hard Norrington / Jack Davenport fan can enjoy this movie?

Well, it depends on what your expectations are for the character. If you're expecting the business-as-usual Commodore, you're out of luck. This Norrington has fallen on hard times but is determined to remedy that and has his own agenda for doing so. He's both less reserved and more cynical, a dangerous combination in a man of his abilities. I am very much looking forward to seeing where his character goes in the third movie.

I may run off and see it again this afternoon. Trying to organize some coherant thoughts about it that would pass for an actual review rather than random squeeing. :D

I'm glad you got to see the midnight showing! I'm sorry I didn't make it down there for that. I'm looking forward to Sunday though!

We had a great time! But alas: the El Capitan is sold out for Sunday afternoon. Perhaps we can just go locally, and swim and bbq, too? What do you think?

That sounds fine with me. My only real requirements were: 1) to see the movie and 2) to see it with all you guys so we can all dress up piratey and be geeky. So I'll be in Simi saturday afternoon sometime, and I'll just be along for the ride to whatever we end up doing on Sunday.

I'm not so much with the dressing up (it was OK in Hollywood -- we were barely noticeable among all the other extreme geeks), but totally with the Sunday matinee followed by swimming and bbqing. Also, I'll be home tomorrow just working on going through my kitchen stuff -- you and Branden are welcome to come swimming any time. The pool is lovely. Jon & Mo will be back in the early (?) evening.

Odds are good we will be home between 6 and 9, if I had to guess. Depends on who is at the event, whether they convince us to go out to dinner with them (if it's Sizzler, no f'in way).

Well, we can bbq even without you, and will probably do so -- I believe Amy and DC are coming over, Ginger will be here by 8 or so with Daisy. I'll make some of that good potato salad again, too, and we have tomatoes fresh from the garden, baby bok choy, etc. for veg. Also TONS of strawberries, so Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. Also: Mai Tai's and/or Mojitos. Yes.

Eeep! I'm sorry! I didn't realise. Should have called you. Originally a bunch of us were going last night, but it turned out only me, Amy and Kimi went. There's a bunch of us going on Sunday, though, if you feel like seeing it a second time. Let me know.

That would be really cool, if you guys lemme know ^^ If the movie's as good as you say-- heck, even if it isn't; I saw Xmen 3 three times, and it wasn't all that too-- I'll definitely wanna see it twice. What time are you going?

Jon and Mo are on their way down. Mo and I will go out and buy the tickets, hopefully for the 1:15 at the Regal or the 12:45 at the Edwards.

We'll be having swimming and brunch in the morning, starting at about 10. We'll need to be at the theater by 12:30 to get in line, I reckon, for the 1:15 show. So wherever you want to join us is fine.
