This seems a particularly apt theme for PotC fic, for some reason...

~ Foolish ~

Will had often berated himself for a fool in loving Elizabeth Swann. An orphaned blacksmith’s apprentice, aspiring to the hand of the daughter of the Governor of Port Royal? How could such a suit ever prosper? And yet, by some miracle, it had.

Fate had split them apart, leading them down paths stony with mistrust and loneliness. Those separate paths converged again, but only to fulfill a destiny that often seemed more bitter than sweet. Yet how could he regret the choices he’d made?

Elizabeth.

He was, and always would be, in love with Elizabeth Swann – and foolish with it.

Yes, 'fool' does seem applicable in so many different ways throughout the POTC

I always had the impression that Will felt a little foolish about the entire endeavor he had been drug into. If it hadn't been for his foolish love, then he wouldn't have foolishly been drug into being a pirate and all the foolish ploys, plots and plans that followed.

I wonder how foolish he's feeling now, on the Flying Dutchman.

Good bit.

Very true. He might have remained a hardworking, and possibly content and successful, blacksmith.

Thank you, as always, for the thoughtful comments. They are much appreciated!

Starcrossed lovers from the first, lead to a bittersweet end. Who but fools would love so completely? Lovely, as always!

Ah! The wisdom of the gods must always seem foolishness to men. Some men never have the miracle of love even once every ten years. Very poignant.

So very true -- he's a lucky man, if you look at it that way.

So happy you enjoyed this one!

Everyone is a fool sometime.

I'm glad you're writing more, again!

We're all fools for love, at one time or another.

Thank you for the feedback. I find this prompt particularly inspiring, so there may be even more coming. ;)

Now there's a piece that does Will justice! I'd like to see that more often.

I am so happy you thought it did Will justice -- that's my goal, whenever I write him. He's a great character. Thank you for the feedback!

Short, but true. He might hate some of it at some points, but he would deal with it. Quite good and in-character.

Much as I love to see good J/E... you are one of the reasons I have a secret soft spot for W/E. When it's written well, that is ;) Beautifully done, as always.

Maybe a fool for love, but it seems love is a totally irrational uncontrollable human emotion. Did Liz, Jack or Norrington act any the wiser than Will?

Maybe not. But this is about Will, and his thoughts on the matter, and the "foolish" in this case is meant in a positive way, really.
