A last drabble for the 'Fool' prompt, exactly 100 words of Davy Jones and Beckett, post-DMC. Thanks, again, to [livejournal.com profile] hereswith for looking it over for me!

~ Fool of a Captain ~

“Jack Sparrow is dead!” Jones asserted, with relish.

“Is he?” Beckett raised an eyebrow. “You know, he’s damnably hard to kill. Do you have some evidence? His head, perhaps? Or some other bit I’d recognize?”

Jones seethed, though that would avail him nothing, thanks to Norrington. “The Black Pearl’s gone to the depths, and its fool of a captain with it!”

“Hmmm. And yet… the ship’s been raised before. By you.”

“For a price! We had a bargain. But no one escapes the Locker!”

Beckett laughed. “No one? And a bargain?” He shook his head. “Fool of a captain, indeed.”

Beckett knows Jack all too well- too bad for him that he'll soon forget his own lesson.

Heh heh heh...

Yes, more fools in the room than he thinks. ;)

There seems to have been enough foolishness to go all around--and yet no one likes being made the fool.

"Who's the bigger fool?" might be an even more interesting question.

At this point, I think Jones was fooling himself, only because he wanted so desperately to believe that Sparrow was dead, and yet all evidence told him that the only thing for certain concerning Sparrow is that there is nothing for certain. The Black Pearl may have gone down...but there was the small matter of an empty chest.

Good examination of another missing scene!

haha! I like these two together and the legend of Jack Sparrow grows! *g* Oh yes, many fools in the room. You sure you wanna lay this drabble prompt to rest? You're on quite a roll and I am so enjoying!

Beckett's so cold, and Jones, for all his heartlessness is awfully emotional -- no wonder he had to cut out his heart. And yet that doesn't explain why Will has to lose his. But we digress.

Thank you so much for the feedback -- I'm so glad you enjoyed this and the rest of my drabbles this week! Maybe next week's prompt will prove just as inspiring. *hopes*

(*gapes* four? or is it six?)

Or some other bit I’d recognize?
Oh! Oh!! Beckett is so delightfully horrible (horribly delightful?)! *feels urgent need for someone to lock him in a room with Ben from Lost*

“Hmmm. And yet… the ship’s been raised before. By you.”
You've made me feel sorry for Davey Jones in a far different fashion than I do when he's pining for Calypso. Beckett's right, and there's no winning this argument for Jones.

There are so many scenes we never see, post-DMC. I was sure Jones couldn't help but gloat about his kill -- and Beckett take him down a peg. I'm glad you thought it worked!

(it's seven!! One for each day. Great theme. Lots of room to play.)

Delightfully horrible or horribly delightful, Beckett is the one true villain of the trilogy, and yes, one can't help feeling sorry for Davy Jones. I'm so glad you thought it worked!

Ben from Lost, eh? Hmmm...

Poor Beckett. His spirit of prophecy obviously abandoned him before AWE. Absolutely hilarious. I can just hear Beckett's voice in this--so dry and sarcastic and mean and nasty. Poor Jones especially. He seems so reduced here from the man who said "I AM the Sea!" It's never a good idea to underestimate Jack's ability to spit and slide under any door that's closed on him. Wonderful drabble you overly-inspired author!

How do you do it?!? Your brain must be bubbling over with pirates - you lucky thing!

I love Beckett in this. He's soooo nasty, but I also detect a tiny hint that he doesn't quite want Jack to be dead. At least, not so soon or so easily - or without a chance to meet him again.

Yes! I can see this conversation happening, and you captured their voices so convincingly.

My favourite line: “Hmmm. And yet… the ship’s been raised before. By you.” Perfect Beckett! :)

So many people seem to underestimate Jack, but *we* all know he's no fool! :)

Did you ever see the deleted post-DMC scene where the Flying Dutchman arrives at the dock at Port Royal right after Norrington hands over the heart? I'm sure there must have been a conversation like this between Beckett and Jones. Yes, one can't help feeling sorry for Jones whenever he deals with Beckett, and Mercer. For all its gruesomeness, I loved the scene in AWE where Jones offs Mercer.

Glad you liked this one! Thank you for the thoughtful comments.

Yes, I think you're right. I think there's little doubt that he remembers earlier encounters with Jack fondly. *shudders*

I've sure been having fun with this 'fool' prompt. Glad you enjoyed this one!

Jack has made an art of getting people to underestimate him. Those that have had previous experience know better. Or should. ;)

Hee, I love Beckett's skepticism. He's learned never, ever to assume when it comes to Jack Sparrow. *g*

Found thanks to new table of contents. Beckett is doing smugly superior so well here. And about to fall flat on his face of course. Off to see what he and Barbossa have to say to each other...

So glad you are finding the table of contents of use! It'll sure make it easier for me to find things. Beckett is such an awful little man, but my niece adores him (and really, he has quite a large following considering he's an unredeemed villain in the sequels), and I have to admit he's fun to write, sometimes. So glad you liked this one! Thank you for letting me know.
