Oh, dear. I'm so behind in reading and commenting, and there are so many lovely PotC stories to catch up on, at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails, [livejournal.com profile] impofperversity, and elsewhere. RL has been crazy hectic, with Must Do's and Can Do's, and, God forgive me, I was assimilated by Farmville on Facebook during the Winter Olympics. I will catch up with reading and commenting, I swear.

When I saw the current drabble challenge prompt at [livejournal.com profile] blackpearlsails, Lamb, this came to me like a vision. Unbetaed, but hopefully OK, and exactly 100 words, without the title.

~ Sacrifice ~

Like a lamb to the slaughter, she's all Turner, all foolish courage. Chin up, staring out at those who sent her father to the depths, now craving her own blood. No unseemly hysterics. Barely a tremor, though her eyes and lips, vivid against her pallor, tell the tale clear enough. The velvet of that gown turns her skin to cream, velvet not the red of blood but of wine, to be drunk and savored to the dregs.

Barbossa takes her hand, cuts it, and she gasps, "That's all?"

He can't help his smile of anticipation, nor his quip: "Waste not!"

~.~

Oh, very yes--this was an important moment where she was grace under fire. Love her like this, scared to death and refusing to even have a sniffle-ly. That's our girl--and Barbossa, nothing if not scary and intimidating!

Thank you so much for the quick response! Barbossa's plans for her, post-curse, don't bear thinking about. He was Not Nice in that first movie.

I love how you specifically noted exactly what color red that was - very nice touch with that. She's all spunk and spirit here and we see the birth of who she will grow up to be - so brave, so formidable. The last laugh is on him, underestimating the Turner's - both her in 'Turner disguise' and Will lurking somewhere nearby.

Do you need a Farmville intervention? The thing really should come with a warning label. *g*

He did underestimate her, and the Turner spirit, too! I'm glad you liked this, thank you so much for commenting.

And I totally need a Farmville intervention, you're very right about the warning label. *G*

What I think Barbossa really underestimated was the loyalty she had earned from Jack in such a short acquaintance.

Jack's Not all treasure is silver and gold tells the tale, doesn't it? And the Barbossa of CotBP was definitely a really bad egg.

I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thank you for your comments!

Liz was very lucky that Will and Jack caught up in time. Of course, this being a Disney flick, I guess they'd have to.

BTW: What is Farmville?

I hope it didn't make you miss all the Olympics, which were quite good.

There was even a PotC reminder- as this photo illustrates, Apolo Ohno has just the right face to play a young Jack Sparrow, should they ever need one for flashbacks:

Apolo Ohno was at one of the PotC premiers. He is very cute! I did see the Olympics, one can play Farmville, a game on Facebook, while watching TV. I don't ordinarily watch TV much, but I do love the Winter Olympics -- the scenery and the daring and grace of the athletes is wonderful to watch! My niece has been playing Farmville for a long time, and needed another neighbor to win some Farmville blue ribbon, so I made a little farm for that reason. But one thing led to another. It's surprisingly addictive.

Yes, Disney flick, so one only got a hint of what might have happened. But Will was there, so no worries. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

"The velvet of that gown turns her skin to cream, velvet not the red of blood but of wine, to be drunk and savored to the dregs." - I love your descriptions. They're both concise & rich & this is amazing.

Wonderful drabble!

It must have been a terrifying moment for Elizabeth, but she stands her ground as best she can, and you convey her bravery here very vividly. I particularly like how she's all Turner, all foolish courage speaks of Bootstrap's character too, and the description of the gown, which is lovely but also hints at that dark undercurrent that might have come across more if it hadn't been a family movie.

Funny, I wouldn't have imagined you getting into Farmville :-) I have friend over here who spends hours with it, it seems awfully addictive, so I've tried to stay clear of it so far.

Got into Farmville during the Olympics, one can play it while watching TV, and yes, it's quite addictive. My niece has been playing it for over a year and needed a couple more neighbors to win a blue ribbon, so I made a little farm to become her neighbor, and the rest is history.

I'm very glad you liked this, would've sent it to you but I only had a little time in the morning to post, was away all the rest of the day and evening. Thank you very much for reading and for commenting here. I really appreciate it.

Great drabble! (Funny how you and I both chose a "lamb to the slaughter" motif for this week's prompt, but gave it two completely different treatments!) :-)

Now, I'm not really a Barbossabeth-er, but there are times that I sort of like the dynamic between these two. Your drabble (from Barbossa's POV) really shows the grudging respect he had for her, that despite her fear, she was determined not to let it show.

And one does shudder to think what plans he might have had for her, after the curse was lifted, and he could experience the pleasures of the flesh again ...

Fantastic work! Very evocative, and a great callback to the most excellent CotBP! :-)

Lamb to the Slaughter seems to fit a startling number of scenarios in PotC. I'm not a Barbossabeth-er either, but I can see him thinking this at that point. Thank you so much for reading and for your detailed comments -- so very much appreciated!

I can't begin to tell you how much I adore this. I mean, to start we have Barbossa being suitably menacing. Then you have a wonderful description of Elizabeth. I especially like Barbossa thinking she's all Turner, full of foolish courage.

This is amazing. You have pulled together an incredible description for all senses so simply and with so few words. I continue to be in awe of your skill.

Wow! Thank you so much! I'm sort of minimalist when it comes to description, so I'm extremely happy to hear when a line or phrase works well. That dress has sure had a lot of fic written about it over the years.
