Title: Blood and Gold and Salt Author: watersword Reason Recced: As I said in my review, the author has managed to portray the characters in a warm, golden, rum-filled haze. The extended sentences tumble over each other, the lines blurred, and yet every personality is so vivid. Clever in what is little more than a drabble. Title: When Shadows Fall (series) Author: tseek_unique Reason Rec'd: A long, plot-driven sort of love square, "When Shadows Fall" hinges upon one of the best original characters I've ever come across: Jack's twin brother, Jonah Sparrow. Strangely bewitching and more than a bit mad, Jonah becomes more fascinating every second you spend with him. He's the shadowed half of the coin, technically, but the fic never falls into the dark twin/light twin cliché. Another favorite aspect of mine is the level of detail regarding historical medical practices -- it's meticulously researched and adds a great deal of authenticity. The sequel, "When Worlds Collide," is a bit more humorous in tone, but still brilliantly written and characterized. Title: The Slippery Road Author: zara hemla Reason Recced: Jack, becoming pirate...lovely language and realty
Freed from the stifling heat of the tavern, Jack stumbles into darkness. Rain smashes down on Port Royal's roofs and palm trees, soaks him in an instant. The streets are empty, the houses dark. Light from the tavern's windows fade quickly as he staggers down toward the docks. He slips more than once on the cobblestoned street, banging his knees and forcing muffled curses.
Title: Immortality Author: linaelyn Reason Recced: Jack/Will. Count this a Halloween rec, contains all the magical realism of the movie with a lovely grace in words. Surprising and wonderful plot, check this out! Link: http://www.culturalinfidelities.com/Linaelyn/immortality.htm
Title: Rum (Jack/Bootstrap) Author: ladyjaida Reason Rec’d: The style of this is wonderful, and unique. The Jack is spot on, and the Bootstrap is very enjoyable and interesting. I also happen to have a weakspot for Bootstrap fics, so that might explain my love for this story as well. LOL. Also, lots and lots of clever dialogue, which I looooove.
Despite how clever he is Jack’s prime weakness is rum; a handful of secondary weaknesses include redheads, the sound of his own voice, picking pockets, and a penchant for trying to outwit any and every soldier who crosses his path. On the latter, he most always succeeds. However, another weakness happens to be pride getting in the way of his great escape.
Title: Untitled (J/W) Author: veronica_rich Reason Rec’d: It’s a really nice piece that actually inspired me to write a prequel (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pirategasm/642764.html), because it supposes a kiss in the past. ‘Course, it’s written by veronica_rich, so it’s also beautifully written.
He didn’t want force; he wanted Jack to kiss him again, to not deny why he was doing it with some poor excuse, to admit it was because he had strong feelings for Will and wanted Will. Feeling guilty, he trailed his lips down into Jack’s close beard and closed his eyes.
Title: <b>Significant Others</b> Author: <lj user="mcee"> Reason rec'd: Very well worded non-smutty little moodpiece-ficlet with three characters that aren't usually put together in one bed. How she manages to convey so much meaning and evoke so many feelings for the characters in so few words never ceases to amaze me. Title: <b>Becalmed</b> Author: <lj user="circe_tigana"> Reason rec'd: Circe's work reads like music. It has these little tidbits, moments in time, that make up a heartwrenching, beautiful, and poignant story. Reading this is compulsory, especially for Sparringtonistas. Reason Recced: Clever and hilarious and poignant. Captures the many facets of Jack's personality, not the least his penchant for tales.

Reason Rec'ed: Searingly hot Jack/Will action, plus a very well-done reincarnation fic. And the ending...well, 'tissue warning' doesn't really do it justice. It's perfect, and the two remixes (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sy_fanfiction/10501.html#cutid1 and http://www.livejournal.com/users/sy_fanfiction/11182.html#cutid1) are beautiful and heartbreaking.
