A little more Harry & the Pirate, a belated gift for birthday girl
ladymouse2, 300 words set post Swann's Revenge and spoilery for same. This is also for the
potc100 prompt 'Eidetic' (I love it when I have to google a word!), and for last week's prompt at
blackpearlsails, 'Protest'. As always, my deepest thanks to
hereswith for beta reading.
~ Postnuptial Agreement ~
Their first instance of marital relations -- conducted with such care, at such length, and culminating in such perilous ecstasy that it virtually redefines la petite mort -- hasn’t sent Jack straight into the arms of Morpheus as it has his exhausted bride. He holds her, absently stroking her tangled silken hair, staring into the darkness. Flashes of the recent past play out upon the shadowed ceiling of the Pearl’s Great Cabin, scenes of bliss, and others less comfortable, even anguished, and replete with appalling detail.
In one vivid instance he’s standing, bruised and chained, in the governor’s study, Swann to the right, Norrington to the left, both set on gelding him should Harry confirm they’re lovers, that it’s his child she carries. And she does confirm it, entering warily, yet unaware of her brother’s true purpose until she sees Jack. Her color ebbs to white then, and she staggers, half fainting.
Looking back on it, Jack’s not sure he’ll ever really forgive Swann or Norrington for that moment.
Yet there’s piratical steel in the slight body that’s curled so peacefully beside him now.
Rather than tearful protests, Jack’s captors are tossed from their moral high ground by fury, contempt, and vehement reproval. Sworn promises of blackmail and revenge complete the rout.
He sighs aloud, still relieved that there’d been no need to resort to such measures.
“Jack?” She’s rousing, moving against him, one clever hand caressing him possessively.
“Harry love.” To his surprise, his voice is a cracked whisper. He bends his head to hers, submitting to her touch, his own rough hands finding solace in the warmth of her flesh.
“It’s all right,” she murmurs, and her lips brush his. “It’s all right.”
“I know. We should sleep.”
And firmly banishing care, eventually he follows his own advice.

I so remember that scene. They were all perfectly in characte,r the way they acted when that happened.
Do you ever consider continuing the story from the trip to Europe?
Would love to learn how the next generation is faring.

Date: 2010-07-02 02:01 am (UTC)There's nothing wrong with AU. What matters is a piece's writing quality, and you've nothing to worry about there.

I intend to keep writing my own AU, regardless of how the 4th movie goes. There are certain other fic writers who I hope will do the same, and (as previously indicated) you're one of them.

As in THE voyage planned at the end of your tale of St Francis's Chalice?
You already know I can't get enough of your Jack and Harry and Tom (the everyone else with a living Norrington and his own lady and kids and, and...)
And you know I've been begging/badgering you to do the partner spy stories with Jack and Norrington, either those adventures mentioned in Chalice or hinted at as future adventures in the Elusive Norrington.
After such a delicious behind-the-scenes moment at the end of Swann's Revenge, I'm whiing for more?
Ahem, Pirate!

Date: 2010-07-02 07:15 am (UTC)"Jack’s not sure he’ll ever really forgive Swann or Norrington for that moment." It's really not a good thing to do threatening the ones he has committed to love--cos he may not at that moment have resource to smite, but he will. Also, it's so Jack (all manly pirate) that he doesn't bother much with his own condition, but that the scenario distressed her!
This leads right well on to (**Yet there’s piratical steel in the slight body that’s curled so peacefully beside him now.**) My beautiful darlin' Harry, now there's someone you would cross only if you no longer felt any need to continue drawing air and live. Jack has met his match with this tiny little wonderwoman--and who the hell taught her the wicked skills she applies so well. I truly believe she defines that 'ripping a new one' rub.:-)
The tenderness between these two has always appealed to me--but the give as good as you get day to day of them is what makes it for me. Just like her response to ship out rather than deal with family and Jack, ending with the most charming girly tears within the safety of Jack's arms. Somehow she brings out that man who was before the brand, the one who knew how to court a lady, dance and flirt.
There's also a real faith between them, each allowing the other to live their chosen life, not becoming one to the point they become an indistinct blob. I just know there's more there that Jack's willing (probably eager, knowing him) to share with his next best girl (I have heard and believe, that Harry's a distant cousin of yours and Jack was quite taken with you upon your first meeting--deny it if you think it will serve, otherwise...)
So well, I've offered in the past to cut your yard, wash dishes, or clothes--I do like to iron, I'll trade you the doing of such for more more more more more of this pair of pirates--if'n you wanna of course, cos miz GM2, it ain't just me...what wants what we wants. Thanks for this bit by the bye.

Date: 2010-07-02 01:45 pm (UTC)She does, she's both a breath of more innocent days and a reminder that one's spirit need not be crushed by adversity. You'd think Captain Jack Sparrow wouldn't need that, being the epitome of optimism most of the time, but he is very human, too, which is why we all love him, I believe -- no, it's not just the hotness. *g*
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. It's wonderful to know that others still my H&theP universe almost as much as I do!

And not only a birthday fic for Ladymouse (and, thus, a gift for all of us as well!), but also (clever you!) rolling two challenge prompts into it all!
As ever, I love the tenderness and passion between Jack and this OFC! Harry surely does bring out the best in Jack, and I love that he's found such a wonderful match in Harry, as well as an outlet for his tender and loving side! :-)
(And may I cast my lot in with those who are drooling at the prospect of another multi-chapter Harry/Jack fic from you? This would be a wonderfully marvellous treat, if your muse is favourably disposed to delivering the goods)! ;-D
Again, a lovely, lovely drabble! A hearty "Huzzah!" for Harry & Jack! :-D
