WhooHoo!! I've actually started my 50,000 word novel for NaNoWriMo (as so many of us have done today). I'll see how it goes for a few days before I start posting it. It's fanfiction, the fourth Harry & the Pirate fic that I've been meaning to write for a while now. Wrote the prologue, and I think it came out rather well. 1645 words, so far! I'll aim for a little more tomorrow: say, 2500, which is fairly minimal for a chapter, anyway.

Good luck to all my friends who are participating. A toast to success and a mountain of great novels!

it's a story I've been working on off and on for about four years, fantasy sort of thing, in a time when magic has begun to die out. I've written only a tiny little bit of it already, and mostly a lot of planning, so I figured if I wrote 50 K new words for it in November that it would still be in the spirit of the NaNo. Last year I didn't want to do this story because I cared about it too much, I was afraid I wouldn't get anywhere on it because I'd be too obsessed with getting it perfect the first time, and wrote a silly fantasy novel which I had come up with almost no background on. That was fun; it was like tuning in every day to your favorite show to see what is going to happen... this year I'd done enough prep on my more important story so that I felt that NaNo would afford me the impetus to get a large portion of it written.

as to what it's about, it's about a few young people with interesting (read: not entirely human) parents... search for identity, the death of magic and the rise of science and monotheism, etc... I'm not sure what else, and how much of those themes will really get into it on the first shot, but that's what I'm starting with.

ironically, the idea came from seeing that disney had made a little mermaid 2... I saw the billboard for it and it got me thinking about what would have happened in the real version of the story, the Hans Christian Andersen version, if the prince and the little mermaid had had a child? so that child is one of the main characters.

NaNo is fun. Scary, but fun.

You seem to have a better goal than me, though: producing something that people can read.

But but but...what are you writing then, if people can't read it?

*eye twitches*

Happy to know you are among the chosen, though. Good luck to you, and to us all!
