The Muse woke up with a drabble yesterday, inspired by the new 'Vote' prompt at
blackpearlsails. With thanks to
hereswith for looking it over, here's 175 words of post-AWE babysitting...
~ Lady's Night Out ~
“I know! Let’s put it to a vote!” cried Jamie, dancing away, Elizabeth’s son having grown recalcitrant regarding bedtime (among other things) since he’d turned five and was (in his opinion, at least) his own man.
“Oh no, we won’t,” said Jack, patience at an end. “You’ll obey orders and that’s that. This ain’t a democracy, you miscreant brat.” And he grabbed Jamie before he could bolt entirely and tossed the boy over his shoulder, none too gently.
Jamie kicked and squealed. “Let me go! I’ll tell my mother!”
“You bloody do that,” Jack growled, and glared at Gibbs and Teague, both of them laughing as he hauled the boy off.
Somewhat later, on Jack’s return, Teague was still chuckling. Jack remarked, acidly, “Oh, it’s that funny, is it?”
“Watching you get your own again?” Teague grinned. “It’s priceless, Jackie. Priceless!”
And seeing the past in Teague’s eyes—Jack’s precocious young self as happy prince of his buccaneer family, before his mother had died—Jack had to smile, too.

Date: 2011-03-26 05:19 am (UTC)Such nice thought! And especially with the boy's name, ´cause James would laugh about Jack's "fate", too, of that I'm certain.
