Drabble: 'Encomium' (J/E - PG13) ~and~ Belated Birthday Wishes

Holy Cats, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. Or month. Or two months. Thank goodness for three day weekends to play catch-up.

Woke up with this in my head (is the Muse finally speaking again?) and am presenting it as a small belated birthday offering to my dear piratey friends, ladymouse2 and florencia7, many happy returns to two of my favorite people!

That first time, she let him have the upper hand, in light of their history, of all that lay between them, and his fire would have frightened her had the rest not shown her his truth, bone-deep, truth before which he was helpless in spite of that conflagration.

After, there was peace, or something like it, hearts slowing, breathing the same air, nose to nose in the dim.

Roughened fingers caught in her hair, tenderly brushing it from her cheek. "Fair disaster."

A just endearment, perhaps, but she murmured, "I might say the same of you," and kissed him again.

You're there! Gosh, it's been just nuts the last two weeks at work, too exhausted to think when I get home. Should be slowing down some now, though, thank goodness. I'm so glad you liked this, and a little surprise for you, too, as I was pressed for time and thought I'd just take a chance and post it unbetaed. Beautifully-written drabble, as rich in what's "between the lines" as what's actually there in the written ones.

Love the hint of the ongoing battle between the two: for dominance over the other (always been a touch of that, from the very beginning, in their verbal jousting--makes sense that it would extend to the bedroom too, and brava to Lizzie for conceding control to Jack, "that first time"!), as well as against their own feelings for one another. In some ways, these two are much too alike for their own good, and thus will frequently be in conflict--but then again, it's that bit of friction that sparks the fire. ;-)

(And, in regard to your response to an earlier Comment, as much as you love the non-explicit sex, your rare forays into NC-17 territory prove you're an accomplished master (mistress?) of the OTHER variety as well! As far as your writing is concerned, it's utter perfection, and I love it ALL!) ;-)
