Drabble: 'Encomium' (J/E - PG13) ~and~ Belated Birthday Wishes

Holy Cats, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. Or month. Or two months. Thank goodness for three day weekends to play catch-up.

Woke up with this in my head (is the Muse finally speaking again?) and am presenting it as a small belated birthday offering to my dear piratey friends, ladymouse2 and florencia7, many happy returns to two of my favorite people!

That first time, she let him have the upper hand, in light of their history, of all that lay between them, and his fire would have frightened her had the rest not shown her his truth, bone-deep, truth before which he was helpless in spite of that conflagration.

After, there was peace, or something like it, hearts slowing, breathing the same air, nose to nose in the dim.

Roughened fingers caught in her hair, tenderly brushing it from her cheek. "Fair disaster."

A just endearment, perhaps, but she murmured, "I might say the same of you," and kissed him again.

You're there! Gosh, it's been just nuts the last two weeks at work, too exhausted to think when I get home. Should be slowing down some now, though, thank goodness. I'm so glad you liked this, and a little surprise for you, too, as I was pressed for time and thought I'd just take a chance and post it unbetaed. Have to zoom to the store and then we're off to a lawn ornament exchange party, lol! And grandson, daughter and two of her friends coming to swim this afternoon. More summer fun!
