Drabble: 'Haunted' (Will, etc. - G)

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted, but the Muse woke up for this particular prompt...



~ Haunted ~


She was haunted.

Jack’s death should have given her peace along with grief. The pirate had come to himself at last, the old Jack, returned to save them, ever the reluctant hero. That ultimate sacrifice had been surprising -- but that was Jack all over. Hero, indeed. So much so that Will could almost understand, if not quite forgive… what he’d seen.

But instead she was haunted. There was no peace in her eyes, her face, her being. She was haunted, and Will didn’t know how to reach her.

It made him wonder about that kiss.

And more than wonder.

I've missed you, too, and being here! RL has been pretty crazy busy, but I'm hoping to do more writing in honor of NaNoWriMo and because I miss writing. Last year at this time I was working on Blood & Treasure, so much fun! And awaiting grandson's birth, of course, and now he's going to be a year old, November 17th. And he's walking! Just a few steps, so far, but he can stand by himself for a minute at a time. I'll try to post some pix this weekend.

I'm so glad you liked the drabble, in spite of its being sad. I have one or two more in mind along the same lines, one for Jack and one for Elizabeth, it was a haunting situation all around, post-DMC. I'm off to see The Rum Diary after work, but I'll see if I can't write and post them by Sunday morning.

Aye, that can't have been a very happy period in Will's life, with everything he'd counted on suddenly thrown into uncertainty.

SO happy to see YOU here, too! RL has been crazy busy, was on vacation with hereswith for a week early in the month (squee!!) and then my daughter got a puppy and have had fewer blocks of time in which to indulge the Muse. Pics will be forthcoming of both vacation and puppy, hopefully this afternoon.

Sad drabble, yes, but the Muse keeps returning to this particular conflict, and now to write the other two that go with it. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!!

Wowie zowie! What an absolutely gorgeous line..."and more than wonder" wowie!

This scene has always just wiped me out--filled me with such sadness becos for the first time the three feel shattered from one another. Elisabeth seems the most lonely becos she has done this powerful, but dastardly thing and she can't turn to either Will or Jack. So lonely and you are so very correct haunted. Lovely strong prompt choice and what a beautiful tiny tale...

Exactly so, it's truly the low point of Elizabeth's story. She did what she felt she had too, but it weighs on her in so many ways.
