Non nobis, Domine, Domine,
Non nobis, Domine,
sed nomini, sed nomini, tuo da gloriam.

Went home for lunch and found I had received my used copy of the soundtrack of Branaugh's Henry V today (which is actually good stuff) and about lost it on the way back to work listening to the above, as it is so very affecting, and we had been dealing with tragedy (Metrolink derailment in Glendale that killed one of our walk-on football coaches and put another district secretary's husband in the hospital in critical condition) and rude reporters who insisted on speaking with various close associates of the deceased in spite of the fact that school was still in session (finals!) and we hadn't even told the students yet. Grrrrrrr.

Boss (who is great person to work for) informed me that she is leaving in two days to take another position at the district level in S. Pasadena. They are lucky to have her: she knows her stuff. It is a good step up for her, and will be better for her health, certainly. There is a truly nasty element at work that is determined to undermine anything she does, and considering the time and effort she puts into the job, she really doesn't get paid enough to put up with that. I will miss her though. If they put someone in her spot that I don't like, maybe I'll have to quit and we'll move somewhere exotic.

Was feeling Very Low, as you may imagine, and then [livejournal.com profile] ladymora called and asked if I'd go to see PotC at the El Capitan in Hollywood on Sunday with the [livejournal.com profile] cali_pirates, in spite of having told [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter I would not. Decided I needed cheering up more than I needed to finish formatting the Newsletter, and so changed my mind, and am going.

Other Good Stuff today was marvelous ficage from [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria and [livejournal.com profile] tessabeth. Holy cats, they can sure Write! So very cheering, and I love them both for their brilliance and their willingness to write volumes of the most superb Pirate!smutfic just for ME! (and the rest of their readers).

Must away to bed now: it is very late.

Not unto us, O Lord, O Lord
Not unto us, O Lord
But unto thy name, But unto thy name, give glory.

It was a day, yesterday. And goes on: woke up thinking about that coach's family -- four kids, all out of high school, but only just. The shock it is for them, and for his wife. Awful.

You just never know, do you.

Sorry I have not got back with you on the story, yet. Will try to do so ASAP, but I know the others are not flaking on you.

Oh, and Re: Sunday -- wish you could be there, too, and so many of the others around the country and the world! What a party that would be!

*lots of hugs*

I'll write a drabble for you, if you like? Just tell me what you'd want to read :-)

Thank you so much for the hugs. Things are a bit better today, and we are going out tonight, so that will be cheery.

Oooh, a drabble--what else but J/E, my dear? Many thanks!

Glad to hear things are a bit better!

More J/E! It shall be done :-)

By the way, you haven't sent me anything yet, have you? My e-mail account has been acting weird again, so I just wanted to check, in case I hadn't received it.

Argh. No. Decided I wasn't quite happy with a couple of the bits, but I'm going to send you the latest Harry chapter in a day or two. I've got a case of the slows, and RL is swamping me, a bit.

I'm sorry to hear about the coach. I've read the news reports of the crash - it's a blessing it killed so few, relatively, but that never makes it easier for the families and friends of those who have lost their lives.

It's a small world, isn't it?

They are having a candlelight vigil for the coach tonight. That'll be nice for the kids, particularly, I think.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. :)

I'm so glad you'll be there Sunday. This coach thing...god. I just...am very glad you'll be there Sunday, 'cause I've got no words.

Yes, such a shame. Big news, too--[livejournal.com profile] torn_eledhwen said she'd heard about it, and she's in London. They had a candlelight vigil tonight, mostly for the parents and students--I think it's really too soon for the family. But you never know: everyone has their own reaction to death.

It's been quite a week, and it's not over yet. Tomorrow is my boss's last day, and the announcement is going to be a big shock to most of the staff. I'll be fielding comments and questions all day, no doubt--she's out of there as of 11:00 A.M.

I am so looking forward to some mindless fun in good company on Sunday.

I was just thinking, I've only been to the El Capitan one other time: to see Aladdin when it first came out! What was that? '91? Same writers, though. :)

Was that Jim Tutino? He was a police officer in Camarillo, and my dad also went to high school with him. He played clarinet, but clarinet is useless in the marching band, so he switched to bass drum. We were just looking at a picture of him in the yearbook, getting ready to lay the drum.

I think it was the very same. So sad.

The rosary is at St. Maximilian Kolbe in Westlake at 7:30 on Monday evening, and the funeral is at the same church at 10:00 the next morning. The school district is providing busses for the football players to attend the funeral. He coached for us for five years. He will be greatly missed.

Very sorry to hear your news. Saw the accident on the news and wondered how close you were to it when I heard what lines were involved. Very horrible and very sad, especially considering how it was done. Real shame you're losing your boss to a better job but she's better off without the ugly undercurrents, nasty situation that. Hope that works out for you. Glad you got your soundtrack, I'm partial to that one as well, especially the Non Nobis one, always find it a joy to hear. Take care.

Thank you so much. I hope you are doing well today--I know you've been having some difficult times too. I owe you feedback--often I read through things and then set them aside to go back and give detailed comments, but sometimes RL intrudes (or I just get plain distracted). Loved the update on your Secret Santa fic, and am looking forward to more Kettle.

Re: boss. Boy, she's had more than her share. She's this tiny woman with this burning desire to make the world a better place. Something of a control-freak -- she enjoys nothing more than a detail-oriented, hands-on approach to every aspect of her life, and it's almost an impossible task at a high school with 2500 kids (and their parents and a staff of over 200). She's going to a great new position, at the district level, in a wealthy area, only 5 schools in the district. She'll LOVE it. We'll miss her. Our district, which has not given her the support she warrants, considering her talent and experience, is losing out, big time.

Can you tell I'll miss her?

On the other hand, the assistant principal stepping in for her is someone I've worked with successfully for years, so there should be no problem there.

Hope you are enjoying good weather today--the rain we had yesterday went away, and it's just beautiful out.

You take care, too.
