Yeah, I'm a bit of an odd one, eh? Thank goodness for academia, in which I can hide and nourish my strange proclivities! I'm so glad you're on the same level :)
One of the big regrets of my life is that I didn't go to college--got married right out of high school. I loved being a wife and mother, but I don't think I ever had any real soul-mates until my older daughter started growing up (we are very much on the same wave-length), and when I started getting involved with the PotC fandom and all the great people around the world who participate!
Yes! Thank heaven for our wonderful fandom! I too have met so many wonderful folks through PotC.
And...it's never too late to go back to school! I have known women at my alma mater who graduated with a BA in their 60s. One amazing woman was in her 80s; she got her diploma sporting a fabulous silver-haired up-do and a shiny new cane! If you really want to do it, I know you can make it happen.

Yes, that may be in my future, actually. Right now I am a high school secretary (a fun job, always something different happening, and lots of graphic design projects, which I love) and living with my 89 year old mother, who has been so very patient with my incessant writing this past year. She told me once she used to feel the same way about painting--that it was truly an obsession, and she neglected her RL duties when pursuing it. Fortunately, since it's just the two of us, I have room to obsess, at this point. That wouldn't be the case if I went back to college full time, but I have a feeling that one of these years that will be my new obsession.
