Apr. 19th, 2005 08:25 pmI finally managed to come up with something for this week's drabble challenge at Black Pearl Sails--
Fleeting beauty has its uses,
Sun-kissed skin, and smiling lips;
And one’s effects are well enough:
Sharp-edged swords, and sable ships.
But history craves a deeper theme:
Tales of courage, sly delights,
A heart comprised of black and gold,
As true as starry summer nights.

But You Have Heard Of Me
Fleeting beauty has its uses,
Sun-kissed skin, and smiling lips;
And one’s effects are well enough:
Sharp-edged swords, and sable ships.
But history craves a deeper theme:
Tales of courage, sly delights,
A heart comprised of black and gold,
As true as starry summer nights.

Date: 2005-04-19 09:37 pm (UTC)I had that heart/black/gold line early on, but couldn't think of exactly what to put with it. Funny how poetry used to just pop into my head when I was very young. It's been a long time. But maybe I'm just out of practice.
Glad you liked it. :)

Date: 2005-04-21 01:25 pm (UTC)I feel I'm not usually one for poetry because there are few poems that I've read that have delighted me but then there are the writers like you who have just the right words.
Essential Sparrow, this. Perfect!
