Here are the five questionstorn_eledhwen asked me...
1. What do you like most about living in California?
The weather is the first thing that comes to mind, but I think it's probably the beauty and variety of the landscape. California has both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States--really breathtaking mountains, sprawling deserts, and hundreds of miles of some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. My own home is in a 6x8 mile valley, surrounded by high hills and low, picturesque mountains. And I'm about 40 minutes from downtown L.A. or Hollywood. I've lived (briefly) and travelled elsewhere, and I miss it when I'm away.
2. Who is Harry modelled on, if anyone?
When I saw Pirates of the Caribbean for the first time, I really liked Elizabeth's character, and the way in which she interacted with Jack. But Elizabeth was already spoken for, of course--the E/W love story is central to the plot, and I couldn't just brush it aside. Still, I thought Jack deserved a little romantic happiness, now that he had his ship back and all, so I tried to think what kind of woman would be interesting enough to hold his attention for more than a night or two, and came up with a combination of an older, more mature Elizabeth, several of Georgette Heyer's amusing romantic heroines (The Grand Sophy, Venetia, Frederica, etc.), and, for appearance, characteristics that seem to be Mr. Depp's preference in RL: small, very pretty women.
3. When were you happiest?
When I was home, doing the wife and mother thing, in our little suburban paradise. I don't think unadulterated happiness is possible in this world, but that's the closest I ever came to being completely happy.
4. If you're angry or upset, how do you deal with that emotion?
Things usually look better from a distance, so I use various forms of escapism, and then come back to the issue when I'm calmer, and then I try to look at all sides of an issue. If I don't have that opportunity, if someone or something is confronting me here and now, I get very calm, outwardly, and don't tend to say much, for fear of saying something I'll regret -- I'm lousey at the quick come-back. I'm fairly articulate in writing, but in person it's a different story (although I'm better at it than I used to be when I was younger). I think that calm thing is a real advantage in my job as principal's secretary at a high school
5. If you could ask Jack Sparrow one question, what would it be?
What is the story of your life? (I think that pretty much covers it.)
In other news, it wasweemonkey6's 21st birthday yesterday. A small but lively party of her well-wishers went to The Elephant Bar for dinner and many fruity rummy libations, early in the evening, after which she toddled off to a party being given in her honor. Today I'm doing a brunch/birthday cake thing for her. My baby: all grown up! *sheds a tear*
