Norrington/Anamaria for Hereswith's Birthday, in my Diversity plotline. As I said at BP Sails, this is a bit gruesomely angsty for a birthday gift, but I have another, cheerier one in mind to do later tonight. ;)

~ White Man ~

He was different, all right, his skin under that uniform, once they'd got it off, pale as ivory. Made the wound look even worse than it was. Made it wrong, in a way that struck her to the heart.

She set her jaw and helped Jack do what they had to do to save him, but it was hard. By the end, there were tears streaking her cheeks. None on his, though, nor any cry on his lips, that stubborn, bloody-minded courage serving, though it left him limp as a rag, and his face dead white under its shipboard tan.

This is wonderful! The imagery is powerful with just a minimal amount of description. You are a fantastic writer. And thanks for the heads-up on Hereswith's birthday.

Thank you so much. What a lovely thing to say! I'm glad you enjoyed, in spite of the angst. ;)

It's amazing how, with only a few words, you wrote so a powerful, impressive scene !

Thank you! Sometimes these things practically write themselves, you know?

It's Hereswith's birthday? Is she around? I haven't seen her for a while...

Lovely drabble, lyrical and powerful!

She's been around, though not yesterday, as far as I could tell.

Thanks for reading and commenting -- I'm glad you liked this. :)

I've been a bit busy, so I haven't been able to be so active lately, but I am around! And it was indeed my birthday, just a few days ago :-)

Happy belated birthday! I hope it's a good sort of busy, and that your computer problems can be sorted out quickly. *hug* It's like being cut off from the world when your internet access is taken away.

Thank you! *hugs back* It's true, you feel kind of lost without it :-)

I'm here! My computer crashed yesterday (I'm using an old, borrowed one now), hopefully the harddrive is ok, but I doesn't look good, and I won't know until Monday, I've left it for repair.

You know I don't mind angsty :-) This is just beautiful, grim and intense and, as other have said above, very powerful, especially the last line, with "...that stubborn, bloody-minded courage serving..." But also: "Made it wrong, in a way that struck her to the heart." I adore it! Thank you ever so much, my dear!

*huggles*

You're welcome! So happy you liked it, and so SORRY you are having problems with your computer. They are such a major part of our lives it's a real trauma when that happens.

I'm almost done with your N/E Angry Dog Picture ficlet, too! I'll probably post it tonight.

Good luck with the 'puter.

Thanks! They surely are, and you fill them with so much stuff that it would be awful if you lost... I have a backup of most of it, but not quite everything, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

But oh, more fic from you to look forward to, that makes me happy :-)

As always, your writing is powerfully moving. Love the contrast between her tears and his refusal to give in to pain. Your spare descriptions leave so much so beautifully to the imagination. So very Norrington with that stiff upper lip. Excellent work.

You're back! How was the Shakespeare Festival?

Thanks for the feedback on this drabble. I find N/A an interesting pairing to write and to read. And as for leaving a lot to the imagination, when one is trying to keep to the hundred word limit of a true drabble it's practically a requirement! So glad you liked it.

This is truly an amazing piece of writing. Very powerful and intense and gripping all at once, and also just the right amount of words to make that much more of an impact.
You've written one of my secret kinks, by the way- Ana/James h/c. This is lovely, and it's going right into my recs. Can't believe I should have missed this until now...

Is there any chance to lure you into writing more of its kind? *insert big puppy dog eyes here*

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you liked this drabble. I have a thing for h/c anyway, and the Norrington/Anamaria pairing is one that really intrigues me. A couple of my favorite stories feature it, Marooned by [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria, and Challenge by [livejournal.com profile] the_stowaway. There are two other stories in my own N/A plotline Diversity and Sweet Pilgrimage, and though they aren't as dramatic as this one they feature the same characters.

Guh. Great drabble, loved Anamaria's POV here, how the wound on his skin would look to her (how evocative you make it!) and how she's notice and react to the stoicism too.

So good of you to go back reading these. I still find the combination of Norrington/Anamaria/Jack interesting, and may eventually write some more on that. Thank you for letting me know you read and enjoyed it!

It isn't goodness on my part, just a hunger for more of the good stuff :) All the best with your future writing!
