In 5th grade (back in 1963, when dinosaurs roamed) we had a student teacher who read us a chapter a day from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The story and the writing hooked me and all of my friends -- copies of the series were scarce as hen's teeth at the libraries from then on. I purchased a set of paperbacks a few years later and they pretty much fell apart with rereading over the years. Recently I picked up the one-volume paperback edition at Costco and it's sitting by my bed.

In short, I love C.S. Lewis's Narnia series, and Disney's new version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe does not disappoint. I saw it last night with [livejournal.com profile] gingersnapps and [livejournal.com profile] amyleone, and a theater full of other Lewis afficianados, and a good time was had by all. They were quite faithful to the book, and I particularly liked the fact that the pacing of the movie matched it. As much as I love the BBC version, which played on PBS when the kids were little, I think the integration of state-of-the-art CGI truly enhanced the viewing experience. It is a literary vision made real.

The PotCII trailer was also shown, to cheers and applause. It looked spectacular on the big screen! Come on, July!!

Speaking of PotC, my poor Muse has been bashed about of late and is trying to get a grip on something substantial. I am hoping this coming week will be much better than the last couple, and that I'll be able to work on some of those drabbles and ficlets that were requested on that meme. I am thinking about them, in a creative way, which is a good sign, and always the first step in the writing process for me. Soon. Hopefully by Christmas. But we'll see.

Outside lights are up, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] weemonkey6, I did the inside decorations last weekend (except for the tree, which we'll get on Thursday and decorate next weekend. This weekend it's cookies and cards. Must make out my shopping list.

Happy Holidays, all!

ETA:You must (MUST!) check out [livejournal.com profile] honorat's PotC new Zombie Muse inspired holiday doggerel, "Norrington Is Coming To Town" (and I daresay you can guess the tune it's sung to). Hilarious and brilliant!!
