Actually a drabble and a half, and in just under the wire at Black Pearl Sails. The theme last week was "Challenge".

~ Indiscreet ~

"Don't you touch that!"

"Frederick!"

Jack, who'd been rifling through some things in the captured ship's great cabin, whirled in time to disarm and disable, pressing the weapon in question against the boy's throat. The lady gave a sob of despair from the corner where they'd been hiding, but Jack threw her a Look and a hiss: Shhh! He bent to address the miniature assassin. "A table knife? I think not. Sharp an' shiny as it is, it would hardly enhance me reputation to succumb to such a blade. Now go to your sister there, before someone sees you."

“She’s my mother. And you’ve seen us!” choked young Frederick.

Discretion’s the better part of valor, Fred. You write it out a hundred times tomorrow or I’ll do more’n see you. Now go back and keep ‘er hid and safe. There’s bad men aboard your da’s ship, savvy?”

I love this! I love fics about Jack's soft heart and this one is really wonderful. And young Frederick has such a life of his own in so very few words.

(Now if I could just get the Gilbert and Sullivan out of my head ...)

Ha! It was the Gilbert & Sullivan Frederick I thought of, too. But I suppose there were lots of Fredericks back in those days. Very glad you enjoyed the piratey fluff!

I love Jack's soft heart too. He really would rather not have any blood about, which is a bit daft for a pirate, but why we love him!

A bit daft, indeed. Fortunately he has other attributes which compensate for his lack of bloodthirstiness. Glad you enjoyed this-- thanks for commenting. :)

I'm very sorry to butt in here, but this has just been driving me nutters.

What is it with Jack/Lizzie shippers and waffles? I must know!

Thanks.

The reference to waffles in relation to Jack and Elizabeth is in this post by PotC writer Ted Elliot.

LOL, so very cute.

"there's bad men aboard your da's ship, savvy?"

I love it! we all know and love Jack, but he can be bad in his own ways too, lol!

Oh, yes. But he's not a thoughtless killer, or the sort who'd let his men get after a young wife and mother, if young Fred will only cooperate.

Glad you enjoyed the pirate fluff!

Btw, it's going to be 85 degrees and sunny here today. *evil cackle*

Oh, delightful! So Jack. I loved the miniature assassin and, as others have mentioned, There’s bad men aboard your da’s ship, savvy? Good thing it was Jack who found them...

Actually he's a miniature defender against pilfering pirates, isn't he? Yes, it's a good thing Jack found them, and not someone who was less focussed on the pilfering. I'm very happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for commenting.

(Using crossover fic icon for reasons which will become obvious momentirly.)

Wonderful! Also very uplifting, which I desperately needed after Wednesday nights preview for next weeks episode of Lost (where they are doing truly horrifically painful things to my Sawyer.) I sooooo needed Jack Sparrow at this moment!

“Discretion’s the better part of valor, Fred. You write it out a hundred times tomorrow or I’ll do more’n see you." Poor Fred! If he takes Jack's task to heart, he will think himself terribly punished by such a dreadful pirate! What a good hearted soul Jack can be. Thank you for such a delightful snippet at just the right time, GM.

Oh dear -- has Lost taken a distressing turn? I saw on my flist that [livejournal.com profile] viva_gloria is watching the DVD's -- you'll have some competition there, if she starts writing it, and some excellent reading, no doubt!

I'm very happy my bit of pirate!fluff de-stressed you, at least temporarily. As for Fred writing standards, I'd think just finding enough ink and paper to do them would be an awful task aboard a recently plundered ship, let alone the writing of them. Thanks so much for commenting. :)

*falls in love with Jack anew*
I adore every bit of this! Jack giving Frederick lines to write is precious, and perhaps suggests he'd been on the receiving end of such an assignment a few times in his life.

That's what I thought -- though ink and paper weren't as inexpensive back then, certainly.

So happy you enjoyed this! Thanks, as always, for reading and commenting.
