~ Fate Intervenes ~

Beckett had never forgotten.

He'd been young, very young when he'd met Captain Jack Sparrow, rising star of the Company. Cutler had been startled, then charmed, then full of… well, something more. Sparrow was no doubt vastly amused. They were nearly of an age, yet Sparrow seemed older, and infinitely more worldly. And, of course, he was Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Perhaps you remember a certain pirate named Jack Sparrow. "

"Captain!" the two snapped, instantly, and Miss Swann reiterated, with some heat: "Captain Jack Sparrow."

"Captain Jack Sparrow." Beckett savored the words, his lips curving. "Yes. I thought you might."

I can imagine that Beckett would resent Jack for the effect he had on him. Great drabble. :)

Oh perfect! And that curl of the lips as he repeats Jac's name...

I can well imagine Beckett spent many a night thinking about Jack...

Wonderful drabble. I find the potential J/B backstory fascinating and no one can tell me that there wasn't a frisson between them during the scene on board the Endeavour in AWE.

Beckett definitely has all the characteristics of a lover scorned ;)

"We both know how you get when your advances are spurned."

(Jack to Beckett- a line not in the final movie edit, but included in the novelization.)

Very nice drabble.

Sigh. Why they would waste a beautiful line like that on a junior novelization and not give it to the ficcers where it belongs is BEYOND me.

As [livejournal.com profile] the_dala said, that's a fabulous line. I would give a lot to have seen it included in the movie.

Glad you enjoyed the drabble!

Oooooh, intrigue! Plus one of my favorite moments with Will and Elizabeth in the whole series. There's just kind of this whole "My pony!" vibe from both of them that I love.

Um, I didn't meant to take that to a dirty place...for once ;)

He's their pet pirate, although it seems Elizabeth is more enthused about that than Will is -- I suppose she's been nattering on, Jack this and Jack that, for the last year or so. No wonder Will says he more acquaintance than friend.

I'm very glad you enjoyed this! Thank you for letting me know.

No, not nice, he's the villain we love to hate. A smooth one, is Beckett, wears the mask admirably. Thank you for commenting -- I'm so happy you liked it!

Not exactly a forgive and forget kind of man, is he? There's a matter-of-fact tone to this that suits the character, with, for example: Sparrow was no doubt vastly amused. Another great take on a scene from the movies, I really liked it :-)

I love the both nearly of an age, yet Sparrow seemed older, and infinitely more worldly. -- I would expect that would bother dear Cutler something awful and he'd always sort of feel the need to make up for that -- sums up quite a bit of relationship in that one line. He's so evil! I love him -- you caught him perfectly!

Probably he's fulfilled more possibilities than his smooth exterior indicates. But I need more wine before I can really think about that too much.

Nice! I'm convinced Beckett still has a huge crush on Jack - and hates him for it of course, because Beckett is not a nice person.
Can even imagine Jack being temporarily attracted by Beckett's sly smoothness - but not for long.

Ahhhh Beckett, my everyone's favourite pantomime villain (and you have his voice beautifully here). I know speculation about the back story between Beckett and Sparrow has been done to death in fandom, but its just so delicious... :)

Very nicely done!

It is, indeed. We are given such cryptic, yet obvious hints of what occurred (and what might have occurred) in the movies that the imagination runs wild.

So glad you thought Beckett's voice right in this. He's a smooth customer, very easy to "hear".

Better late than never!

This mirrors the 'smirky' attitude Jack had with Beckett in AWE. Although Beckett was trying to prove he had the upper hand, he was unable to pull it off with Jack because of past history.
